The Technical Office was established based on Articles 3 and 4 of the Judicial Authority Law. Article 3 states: “A Technical Office shall be established within the Supreme Court, consisting of a president and a number of judges from the courts of appeal and courts of first instance, who shall be appointed by a decision of the president of the Supreme Court and shall be assisted by a number of staff members.”

Powers of the Technical Office.

Article 4 of the Judicial Authority Law specifies the powers of the Technical Office as follows:

1. To extract legal principles established by the Supreme Court.

2. To issue classified and categorized collections of judgments, citing the legal principles extracted from them.

3. Preparing legal research and studies requested by the President of the Supreme Court.

4. Publishing a peer-reviewed scientific journal concerned with matters relating to judges, Sharia, and law.
